marilynandbob > For Marilyn's extended birthday weekend, we took our RV trailer up to Grand Junction, CO and then on to Moab, Utah. In Grand Junction we drove a bit east to Palisade ~ called "Colorado's wine country". We rode our bicycles around, following the maps for wine country (we missed the similarly wonderful orchard tours which close up in early fall). Here is a demonstration vineyard at Grande River winery. In the background are the "palisades", called the Book Cliffs. Opposite them is the Colorado River. In between, the quaint little town of Palisade. Each winery has a tasting room, and we sampled many wonderful wines, both red and white. We also visited a meadery, where honey-based wine is made. These products are really GOOD! We bought some bottles along the way- the weather was perfect and we had a really, really good time.
marilynandbob > Same demonstration vineyard. We found and ate some of the grapes that make our favorite wines... merlot, syrah, chardonnay.
marilynandbob > Forgot which winery this one was (too many samples!!) but it had this great public art- a mighty and hefty rooster! As you see, made out of found material. Really appealing. Marilyn couldn't keep her hands off. PS We think that this is Plum Creek Winery.
marilynandbob > Another vineyard scene. I believe I'm standing in front of Merlot.
marilynandbob > This is Bob's niece, Amanda, who lives in Tulsa, OK. Her mom is Bob's youngest sister, Barbara. Amanda is a manager at a department store, Beall's, in Tulsa. She was part of a team sent out to Montrose, Colorado, to open a new store. Montrose is near enough to Grand Junction that we were able to arrange to meet her for dinner. We are so proud of her, and how accomplished she is... manager at the age of 24! She and her husband, David, will buy a new house to be closer to her new store in Tulsa.
marilynandbob > Here we are together at dinner: Amanda Diaz, Marilyn and Bob. It was a lovely visit.
