Fall Trip, 2009: Yellowstone/Tetons : Being retired is so great~ we can take a great trip in the fall, favorite time of year. We pulled our trailer, took Rafiki (who was great, and is still doing quite well). Some unseasonably hot weather at first, then it got nice and cool, and the fall colors were stunning. Check out the photos! Even though there were some fires in both Yellowstone and Tetons, we were not inconvenienced by them, and got out before roads were closed. In Yellowstone, we were fortunate in seeing many irregular geysers spouting off! However, we saw no wolves or grizzley bears... although there were plenty of bison, elk, antelope and we did see a few black bears, in the distance.

Bagpipe workshop, Durango : In August, we had another bagpipe workshop in Durango. Iain Macey, one of the instructors from Pipe School, comes out here for a weekend and we work very hard. While I have no photos of the piping and working on music, here are some photos of the cook-out for us to to relax and celebrate. Iain is a fabulous teacher, medal winner, one of the top pipers in the world (all the instructors at pipe school are at this level) and we are lucky to have him when he comes!

Bagpipe school, 2009 : Every summer for about 7 years now, I've attended the United States School of Piping in Flagstaff, AZ, along with other members of the band. This year, there were only 3 of us: Laurie, Monte and me. It's an intense week of classes playing the practice chanter, afternoon massed band practice with the pipes, and evening concerts by the instructors - with Pub Night in the middle of the week. Fun, hard work, a way to really improve skill level, and some wonderful friends.

CU graduation, May, 2009 : In May, we went to Boulder for nephew Jackson's pre-graduation graduation~ he still had some courses to take in order to graduate, but wanted to "walk" with his friends and roommates. So, the family gathered and we all had a lot of fun. There was the ceremony iteself, outdoors in the CU stadium, with the crowd of graduates featured on the Jumbotron. Good speakers and music. The night before, families of the friends and roommates had a nice dinner at a restaurant and visited. it was a lovely event, with perfect weather.

Marilyn's women's group retreat : Marilyn's women's group, the Crowwommyn, headed to Utah, into the Valley of the Gods for a weekend camp/retreat in April. Still fairly cold, we had Marilyn's camper trailer, and a smaller one that Alane brought. We couldn't be outdoors much at night, but during the day we were able to take some great hikes and did some good activities.

Snowdown, 2009 : Oh my Gosh, another Snowdown! If you've looked at our website over the years, you know that we always have a big Gallery for Snowdown- Durango's annual winter carnival. Most of you know that Marilyn loves to dress up, and you've figured out that Bob does too. Nov, 2007; Telluride, Colorado with Durango Choral Society : The Durango Choral Society performed a huge concert of American music (Copeland, Bernstein) in Telluride, Colorado, in November, 2007. We were joined by the Telluride Choral Society and had the honor of singing with the San Juan Symphony, conducted by Maestro Arthur Post- the symphony is very good! This was a huge event and both the Telluride performance and the Durango performance were sold out in large concert halls, and very well received!

"Tour de Farms", Sept, 2007 : Marilyn belongs to a community coalition, "Healthy Lifestyles La Plata", which organized this bicycle tour for families in the area. We had 37 people and four of us were volunteer coordinators on Sat, September 21. We met at the local Farmer's Market and admired the many regional and local farms bringing produce and local food to sell. We travelled to 5 other community gardens- some of which are shown here: the Manna Soup Kitchen, Park Elementary School, Durango Early Learning Center, Turtle Lake Refuge and the Smiley Building community garden, where we also had a lunch of all local food. It feels wonderful to be part of the nation-wide Local Foods Movement!!

Celine's High School Graduation : Celine graduated from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs on May 22, 2007. Her uncle (Marilyn's brother) Bill and his wife Tammie from Tennessee flew to Col. Spgs. for the occasion, Bob and Marilyn were there, as well as Celine's dad, Mickey and her brother, Jackson. It turned out to be a "family reunion" of sorts, and a whole lot of fun.

Tennessee Trip, October 2006 : This trip was planned for one year! While Bob was in Africa, I drove to Colorado Springs with Rafiki the dog (leaving Cheena and the kitty behind) and Melissa (who lives there) and I had a sister road trip to Nashville, where our brother, Bill lives, with his wife of around 15 years, Tammie. He is the HR director of Forensic Medical Inc, a "CSI" type facility that serves the state of Tennessee in the Nashville and Memphis area. Tammie works at St. Thomas Rehabilitation Center in Nashville. There are 2 pages of photos and captions- please check them all out!

Family and Friends, 2006 + earlier : Here's some photos and information about family and some good buddies. Family includes Marilyn's sister, Melissa and her two children, Celine (age 17 in May, 2006) and Jackson (age 19 in October, 2006). Melissa and Celine live in Colorado Springs; Jackson in Crested Butte, CO or at University of Colorado in Boulder. Some photos include Melissa's ex, Mickey- great father and good friend to us all. On Bob's side, family includes mother, Florence and sisters Phyllis and Barbara. Mom and Phyllis live in Tuscon, AZ, while Barbara lives outside of Tulsa, OK.
